Coming to town!

Well, if not sooner, Tuesday is the day. We'll be welcoming our newest little one on the 28th of June. Then, my mom and dad and brother will be coming to town July 1st and staying thru the 9th. I'm almost as excited about their coming as I am this baby's! I have missed them a lot in the past couple of months...not only for myself, but for Jed as well. I miss seeing how much he loves them! I was letting him look at pictures with me this morning and he just kept wanting me to keep flipping thru them. We went thru every picture at least 4 or 5 times. I know that they are all worried that Jed has forgotten them but I'm sure that's not the case. So, I'm very anxious to see his reaction when they get here that day. He may be a little shy -or- he may run to them...I'm not totally sure what to expect. When we watch video footage with them in it he tends to want to climb right up into my lap and just watch...that kind of makes me expect shy....but you never know!

Duck, Duck, Go!

On Saturday we went to Girard Park. Just Drew, Jed and I. It was so great. We took a picnic lunch and found a shady spot by the lake. As we ate our lunches, there was one really ugly persistent duck that kept sneaking up towards our blanket. He wanted our lunch. So, Drew would get up from time to time and chase the duck off - telling him to "Go!". After lunch, as we were walking around the lake, Jed started chasing ducks off too, waving his arm at them and telling them to "Go! Go!". It was very funny. However, now he does it to the cats (funny) and occasionally other kids or adults (not so funny). It's been very interesting to see the attitude he's caught just from this one little event - it looks a bit like disrespect if you ask me. I'm not sure how well he 'respected' in the first place, but he's definitely picked up something that has him looking like he respects even less. I expect that this will pass because, well, something is usually only funny to him for a little while before he forgets and moves on to something else. But it was definitely an eye-opener to how quickly kids pick things up!

Another Dr. Update

Went to the Dr. today for my 37 week apt. and here's what we learned...dilated to 3 cm, 75 % effaced and still at -1 station. All of that is to say simply, "here's where we are", but it really gives little indication of how soon we'll get to where we're going. Any day now could mean tomorrow or could still mean 2-3 weeks away.

Dr. Meaux said I'm probably carrying a 7 1/2 lb baby at this point...It still amazes me that there really is a whole tiny little person living inside me!

What to do?

I'm running out of fun things that Jed and I can do together during the day that doesn't cost money and doesn't kill me physically!
  • We've started going to Barnes & Noble on Monday mornings for Toddler Story Time and Jed really enjoys being around all of the other kids...I enjoy just getting out of the house! Although, getting out of the house becomes much harder every day.
  • We play outside in his pool & in the dirt most days - when the weather is good. Part of our routine includes a popsicle halfway thru playtime. We sit on the swing and he eats his "poo-kee" and I eat mine. Although, he continuously wants mine too. He hasn't yet realized that holding the stick instead of the middle of the popsicle will make it last longer...
  • We go to the mall or other stores and walk around. I'm excited for birthdays or gift giving holidays lately because it's an excuse to go shopping... I'm also excited for just plain old errands! We need milk - yeah! Something to do...
  • We hang out in the sunroom and just play with toys, climb on chairs & couches, watch TV, etc. Yeah, I don't feel like that great of a mom during these times...I mostly just feel lazy.
  • Occassionally, when I can scrape together $.90 in change, we will go get a 'Cajun Sno' (shaved ice) and share it. This is my guilty pleasure lately - either banana, blackberry or strawberry with sweetened condensed milk. Jed doesn't care what flavor. And neither does #2. They are happy with whatever I get...so long as they get some too!
I JUST realized that perhaps I'm going stir crazy because (in addition to being in someone else's home) I'm not used to being at home every single day. I worked 2 or 3 days a week before we moved. No wonder...

Dr. Update

Well, just a quick update from the Dr. visit....dilated between 2 & 3 cm and at -1 station. The baby is in position, head down. Bascially everything is at the same exact point with this baby as it was with Jed at 36 weeks. I go back next tuesday to check things out again.

The Miscellaneous Files...

The Baby Update:
Today at 4pm I have my 36 week appointment. That's the first cervix measuring visit. In other words, we get some idea of how close baby might be to making its way out. If I am not at least as far along as I was with Jed at this point, that will be very sucky. I have been way more uncomfortable and experienced WAY more braxton hicks contractions than I EVER did with Jed.

We're still trying to find a good boy's name...just as a back-up. (Yep, I'm still a little nervous that 'she' might be a 'he'...) If you have any ideas, please share! Of course, we still won't tell you if we choose it...at least not until the baby is born and not unless the baby is a boy...

The Jed Update:
Jed and I spend a lot of time outside lately. We are both getting a pretty nice tan. Jed is still darker than I am, even though I use no sunscreen and he gets lathered up with tons of spf 45. Life is just not fair. Jed's Mimi & Poppa bought him a great little inflatable pool. It's got a slide and all kids of fun stuff that came with it. He loves it! Although, I think he actually likes the water hose more. He finds it real funny to spray mom & dad with the cold hose. It's amazing how well he handles the cold water. Drew and I are complete wimps about it. (Drew more so than me!!) He also really likes drinking from the hose. He drinks yucky stuff from the pool too when there's a cup around. I hope that whole 'too clean makes kids immune systems weak' thing is true, because Jed certainly plays in and eats his share of dirt.

One of his favorite snacks is raisins. He gets absolutely giddy when he sees that little bitty raisin box. He is so cute digging his little fingers in there to pull them out. Part of the fun of eating the raisins is dumping them out and putting them back in the box. We find raisins everywhere. He does too. Outside even. Days later. And he eats them. And I just think to myself, "I sure hope that was a raisin...". We leave raisin trails all over stores. I know people probably think that Wal-mart and the Gap have crazy rat infestations going on.

Jed is really expanding his vocabulary lately. Some words that I can think of off the top of my head - apple, bath, book, cookie, outside, juice, milk (although a lot of his "m" words actually come out as "b" words for some reason...unless he's whining...then mama sounds just right...of course!), Jesus (the ladies at church taught him to say Jesus when they'd ask "Who loves Jed?" It's great!), Poppa, cheese, dog, kitty, yuck, mama & dad. He can say a whole lot of other things when I ask him "Can you say _____?" but he doesn't necessarily associate them with the actual object. Like right now we're working on 'sissie' but of course he doesn't have a clue as to what kind of whirl-wind is about to come and turn his life upside down...

General Family Stuff:
I'm anxious to see how life changes for all of us with the new addition. It's pretty amazing to think that our lives could be any more full (as in fulfilling). And then when I think how we say we want 4 kids, that's just crazy! I spoke with a woman the other day who had 3 children, and her oldest 2 where 21 months apart. She told me that the birth of her second child was the hardest time in her life. But that it was so great now because they are really good friends. That's what I want for my kids. I want them to be great friends. To really enjoy each other. And, don't worry, I'm not totally naive. I totally expect that they will be really good enemies too...

Tonight is our second bible study for Vox. I'm excited. Drew really puts a lot of time and work into preparing for all of this. He's got a great reputation with people in Lafayette; they know that he truly cares about them, and they, in turn, are truly drawn to him. His passion for truth and for people makes for a great combination...
