Duck, Duck, Go!
On Saturday we went to Girard Park. Just Drew, Jed and I. It was so great. We took a picnic lunch and found a shady spot by the lake. As we ate our lunches, there was one really ugly persistent duck that kept sneaking up towards our blanket. He wanted our lunch. So, Drew would get up from time to time and chase the duck off - telling him to "Go!". After lunch, as we were walking around the lake, Jed started chasing ducks off too, waving his arm at them and telling them to "Go! Go!". It was very funny. However, now he does it to the cats (funny) and occasionally other kids or adults (not so funny). It's been very interesting to see the attitude he's caught just from this one little event - it looks a bit like disrespect if you ask me. I'm not sure how well he 'respected' in the first place, but he's definitely picked up something that has him looking like he respects even less. I expect that this will pass because, well, something is usually only funny to him for a little while before he forgets and moves on to something else. But it was definitely an eye-opener to how quickly kids pick things up!

At one point, he picked up cinnamon sticks and Michael was NOT pleased, so he told Jed to "go put 'em back." And Jed turned around in defiance and did the "Go!" thing to Michael. Hilarious... and slightly unsettling. I didn't know whether to laugh or to spank Jed, I just scolded him a little.
Aren't children great for reinforcing the idea of being born with sinful rebellion?
Of course, they're also an example of God's grace and love...but there's a lot of sinful nature stuff there, too.
Man, God was really thinking when the idea of procreation / children came to mind. What perfect walking microcosims of our spiritual life.
